Choice of Room
All the 28 rooms at Cherry Tree Lodge are different from each other in many respects, small to very large, different locations within the home and whilst they all have private en-suite facilities of toilet and sink, fifteen now have private showers or bath. All our rooms have been individually rated to consider their various features which I believe is fair.
Rooms which become vacant are firstly available to our existing residents who may wish to upgrade or downgrade. Generally, most residents become very happy with their initial choice of room and thereafter do not wish to move to another room when available. Residents or their families should inform us if they would like the resident to have a different room should one become available.
The rooms on the second floor of house 42 has a stair lift fitted which will enable residents to access this floor if or when they cannot manage the stairs. The rooms on that floor have been reduced by 2% because it is not serviced by a lift.
I have enclosed an updated list of all the present rooms and their new fee levels so that everyone knows where they stand regarding personal room choice. Using a new lower base rate of £530.40 All rooms are multiplied by the respective percentage rating over and above the most basic room. The base rate is increased by around the rate of inflation each year.
Everyone’s help needed
What will greatly assist the home to keep our fee levels down are “high occupancy levels”. If anyone can guide any prospective residents in our direction they will be helping by probably doing that person a favor, helping all residents whose fee levels may be kept down, and raising staff wages and bonus. These all depend upon resident numbers and ensures the future viability of the home.
For any unrelated person taking the time and trouble to introduce a new resident into Cherry Tree Lodge, (who then stays for more than 4 weeks) they will receive a thank you gift of £100.
No TV license required
When an elderly person takes up permanent residence at CTL they are put on the CTL concessionary TV license list for which there is no charge to the resident and residents may make a reclaim on their own TV license.
Hairdressing and Chiropody
Most residents take advantage of the hairdressing up to £8 per 2 weeks and chiropody up to £12 once every six weeks. This allowance is built into the existing room fee basic room charges to encourage residents to be looked after without worrying about the cost. There are however a few residents who independently care for themselves in respect of both these matters by going out and having their hair done and visiting their own chiropodist. This is respected and is very nice for those residents to retain their independence. An additional discount amounting to £6.83 per week will be applied to those few residents.
Private fee paying residents (who do not have any part of their fees paid by a local authority) are entitled and should claim attendance allowance. This claim is NOT finance related and is an entitlement which everyone eligible should claim. If any resident or family member requires help in making this claim, please contact Nicky our care manager who will be pleased to assist in helping to make the claim. The form is demanding and is probably designed to put most people off, but you should make the claim with or without our help. The authorities do sometimes check details so it might be best if we were all “singing from the same hymn sheet” if you know what I mean. Whether attendance allowance is claimed, it has no effect upon our charges.
At present attendance level rates are Lower – £55.10 pw. and High – £82.30 pw. Most of our residents would qualify for one or other allowance.
Out of category surcharge
For several reasons, we have introduced an out of category additional charge for residents who permanently requires a nursing bed, is incontinent and require 2 carers to attend safely to their needs of a high level. This will be set at a figure of £200 per week and will be reviewed to reflect the true costs. This will enable residents to remain at CTL if they want to, rather than being moved on to a different care setting. We shall have to increase staffing levels to accommodate this higher level of care depending upon the number of residents taking up this option.
Payment of Fees and Charges
Payment is required by standing order.
• Preferably weekly at the beginning of each new week commencing Monday.
• Alternatively, monthly at the start of each month in advance.
Method of calculation is Weekly fee / 7 x 365 / 12 = Monthly fee.
The Cherry Tree Lodge account details are:
Sort Code 30-97-88 and the account number is 29949568
Payment by cheque is inconvenient and costly and for that reason an additional charge of £2.00 will be made for each cheque. The £2.00 charges for cheques will be added to the individual’s pocket money accounts.
For residents requiring respite care (not permanent) the fees are to be paid in advance for the duration of the respite period.
Late payment of fees may attract a late payment interest rate and charge but hopefully this will not have to be applied.
Special concession for couples sharing the same room
There are possibly five rooms 1, 6, 12, 26, 28 which may be used to accommodate couples or may be used by a single person. For single persons, an additional 6% has been added to the room fee schedule to compensate partly for their only being one person rather than two.
If occupied by a couple the total room rates is greatly reduced to 2 x the CTL lowest single room charge. This would be presently £ 541 x 2 = £1,082 per week per couple.
Well I know all of this seems a lot but I have put all the information before you and I hope it will be considered by everyone to be fair. Please talk to me if you have any concerns, queries or require any help with any of these matters in any way.
